  Plan on roughly 250-350 g of kibble per day for an active 22-25 kg adult. Important: part of the breed carries the MDR1 mutation, which makes certain medications and antiparasitics dangerous — ask for a test or veterinary advice before any treatment.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Its medium-length coat with undercoat needs brushing once or twice a week (slicker brush and comb), daily during shedding season. Never clip it: the coat protects against both heat and cold.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  A highly cerebral herding dog, it thrives on frisbees, puzzle toys, snuffle mats and trick-training sessions. Without enough to do, it can develop chasing or destructive behaviours.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  A 90-110 cm bed suits most individuals. Choose a washable cover: between sporty outings and shedding, the bed takes a beating.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  Introduced to the car early, it travels well in an M/L crate or with a safety harness. Often taken everywhere, it benefits from a folding crate that is handy for agility events or holidays.
