🐕French Bulldog: gear and buying guides
The French Bulldog is a playful, affectionate little companion of 8 to 14 kg, perfectly suited to apartment life. As a brachycephalic breed it is sensitive to heat and strenuous exercise, which dictates most of its gear: a harness rather than a collar, a cooling mat, a flotation vest near water. Its skin folds also need regular care.
Profile : Small dog, 24-35 cm at the withers (8-14 kg), smooth coat, flat muzzle, moderate energy level.

🍖
Food
Plan on roughly 120-180 g of kibble per day for a not-very-sporty 11 kg adult, as the breed gains weight easily. Many Frenchies eat too fast and gulp air: a slow-feeder bowl helps reduce flatulence and regurgitation.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Clean the facial folds 2-3 times a week with suitable wipes to prevent dermatitis. The smooth coat is easy to maintain, but the skin can be allergy-prone, and the prominent eyes deserve regular checks too.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Playful but quickly winded, it prefers short sessions: chew toys, snuffle mats and simple puzzle games suit it better than long runs. Avoid intense play during the hottest hours.

🏠
Bedding & habitat
A 60-80 cm bed fits its frame. In summer, a cooling mat (15-35 €) is near-essential for this flat-faced breed that struggles to regulate its temperature; indoors, keep it a cool, well-ventilated spot.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Always choose a harness over a collar, which would press on its already fragile windpipe. In the car, use a well-ventilated S/M crate and never travel in a hot vehicle; note that many airlines refuse brachycephalic breeds in the hold.

🧰
Accessories
A size S Y-harness (20-45 €), fold-cleaning wipes and a cooling mat make up the basic kit. Near water, a flotation vest is strongly advised: its compact build makes it a very poor swimmer.
