🐕English Bulldog: gear and buying guides
The English Bulldog is a placid, stubborn, endearing dog weighing 18 to 25 kg on a low, massive frame. A heavy-bodied brachycephalic breed, it copes poorly with heat and sustained exercise, and its gear must offset these weaknesses: a harness fitted to its broad chest, an orthopaedic bed, cooling solutions. Its many skin folds demand near-daily care.
Profile : Stocky medium dog, 31-40 cm at the withers (18-25 kg), smooth coat, very short muzzle, low energy level.

🍖
Food
Plan on roughly 200-300 g of kibble per day for a low-activity 23 kg adult, favouring a light formula: excess weight directly worsens its breathing and joint problems. A slow-feeder bowl limits air gulping, common in the breed.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its facial folds and the wrinkle above the nose must be cleaned and dried several times a week, if not daily, to prevent moisture build-up and infection. Also check between the toes and under the tail, which is often deeply wrinkled.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Not much of an athlete, it enjoys sturdy chew toys and calm scent or puzzle games. Sessions should stay short, especially in warm weather: a few minutes of play is often all it wants.

🏠
Bedding & habitat
Plan on an 80-100 cm bed, preferably orthopaedic: its high weight-to-size ratio and joint predispositions justify it. A cooling mat and a cool room in summer are essential for this heatstroke-prone flat-faced breed.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Harness only, never pressure on the neck. In the car, use air conditioning and take frequent breaks; never leave it in a parked vehicle, even briefly, as heatstroke can turn fatal very quickly in this breed.

🧰
Accessories
A wide harness designed for deep chests (30-60 €), fold-cleaning wipes, a cooling mat and a flotation vest near water: the English Bulldog can barely swim at all. A ramp for the sofa or car spares its joints.
