🐕Pug: gear and buying guides
The Pug is a small affectionate clown of 6 to 9 kg, made for family and apartment life. A flat-faced breed with large prominent eyes, it fears heat, hard exercise and pressure on the neck: a harness is a must, along with summer vigilance. Its love of food and surprisingly heavy shedding round out the equipment picture.
Profile : Small dog, 25-30 cm at the withers (6-9 kg), short dense heavy-shedding coat, very short muzzle, moderate energy level.

🍖
Food
Plan on roughly 80-130 g of kibble per day for an 8 kg adult, weighing each portion: Pugs are extremely food-driven and obesity worsens their breathing problems. Treats should be deducted from the daily ration.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Despite its short coat, the Pug sheds a remarkable amount: brushing with a rubber mitt twice a week keeps it in check. The nose-roll fold needs regular cleaning and drying, and its prominent eyes, prone to corneal ulcers, deserve close attention.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
A fan of short play sessions, it enjoys small soft toys, snuffle mats and easy puzzle games where its food motivation shines. Avoid any intense play in warm weather.

🏠
Bedding & habitat
A 50-65 cm bed is plenty. A cooling mat in summer is strongly recommended, and many Pugs snore: a bed outside the bedroom may save your nights.

🧳
Travel & safety
A harness is imperative, never a collar alone: neck pressure worsens its breathing difficulties and can contribute to eye problems. In the car, use a well-ventilated size S crate; like other flat-faced breeds, it is often refused in aircraft holds.

🧰
Accessories
An XS/S Y-harness (15-35 €), nose-fold wipes and a cooling mat make up the basic kit. A ramp or steps for the sofa protects its back, as the breed is prone to spinal issues linked to its corkscrew tail.
