🐕Chihuahua: gear and buying guides
The Chihuahua is the smallest dog in the world: 1 to 3 kg of bold character, deeply bonded to its owner. Its tiny size demands specific gear you will not find on standard shelves: an XXS harness, mini kibble, a snug bed and protection from the cold. Its physical fragility (windpipe, teeth, joints) drives every equipment choice.
Profile : Miniature dog, 15-23 cm at the withers (1-3 kg), short or long coat, medium energy level.

🍖
Food
Plan on roughly 30-60 g of small-breed kibble per day for a 2 kg adult, split into 2-3 meals: its tiny size puts it at risk of hypoglycaemia, especially as a puppy. Choose very small kibble pieces suited to its miniature jaw.

🧴
Care & grooming
Chihuahuas are especially prone to tartar and tooth loss: brushing the teeth several times a week and regular veterinary cleanings matter. The short coat needs little care; the long-haired variety should be brushed once or twice a week.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Choose XS toys that are light and easy to grab; standard toys are too big and too hard for its jaw. Despite its size, it needs proper walks and small scent games to thrive.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
A 40-50 cm bed with high sides gives it the nest-like feel it loves; many enjoy igloo-style beds or a blanket to burrow under. Very sensitive to cold, it should sleep well away from draughts.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Harness only: its fragile windpipe, prone to collapse, rules out any pulling on a collar. In the car, an XS crate or a secured carrier is essential; in town, a carrier bag (20-60 €) shields it from crowds and big dogs.

🧰
Accessories
A well-fitted XXS/XS harness (15-30 €), a warm coat from autumn onwards and an indoor sweater for the chilliest dogs: at 2 kg, it loses heat very fast. A ramp or steps for the sofa helps prevent fractures, common in this light-boned breed after a jump.
