🐕Belgian Malinois: gear and buying guides
The Malinois is an intense, lightning-fast working dog with extraordinary drive, weighing 20 to 30 kg. The favourite of police and military K9 units, it is not built for a sedentary life and demands structure, sport and extremely durable bite toys. Its gear should be professional-grade: reinforced stitching, near-indestructible materials.
Profile : Dog of 56-66 cm at the withers (20-30 kg), short fawn coat with black overlay and undercoat, extreme energy level.

🍖
Food
Plan on roughly 300-400 g of kibble per day for an active 28 kg adult, more for a sport or working dog. Its high energy output justifies a diet rich in quality protein and fat.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its short coat with undercoat is low-maintenance: a weekly going-over with a curry brush is enough, stepped up during shedding season. Check paw pads and nails, which take a pounding from its intense activity.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
The Malinois has a very strong bite-and-tug drive: bite rolls, balls on ropes and near-indestructible rubber toys are essential — standard toys simply do not survive. Obedience and scent work matter as much as physical exercise.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
Plan on a 90-110 cm bed in chew-resistant material; young Malinois easily shred plush beds. An indoor crate, introduced positively, helps it decompress.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
A size L crate in aluminium or reinforced plastic is the norm among dog-sport handlers (100-300 €). Quick and reactive, it should never ride loose in the car.
-
🧰
Accessories
A reinforced harness with a handle, biothane lead, 10 m long line and whistle make up the typical kit. Choose metal clips and buckles: its pulling power puts gear to the test.
