Abyssinian gear, family by family

• 🍖 Food

  Its intense activity calls for a protein-rich, energy-dense diet, split into several meals or measured free feeding. Slow-feeder or maze bowls extend mealtime and keep it stimulated.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  The Abyssinian's short coat needs just one brushing a week, slightly more during shedding season. Regular dental checks are advisable, as the breed can be prone to dental issues.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  It is one of the most playful cats: ball tracks, feather teasers and fetch toys keep it busy, but rotate them often to prevent boredom. Many Abyssinians enjoy water games and food puzzles.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  Plan for a large cat tree (at least 1.5 m) and wall shelves: the Abyssinian lives up high and surveys its territory from the top. A perched bed near a window will make it happy.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  Quick and agile, it can slip through a half-open door: a carrier with a reliable latch and secured window screens are essential. Get it used to the carrier early to reduce stress.
