  Like its cousin the Abyssinian, the Somali burns a lot of energy: a protein-rich diet supports its musculature. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids help keep its semi-long coat glossy.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Its semi-long coat with little undercoat needs brushing two to three times a week to prevent tangles, especially on the britches and tail. During shedding season, a metal comb usefully complements the brush.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  The Somali keeps its playful temperament for life: wand toys, balls and chase games should be rotated regularly. It enjoys challenges such as treat-dispensing puzzles.

  A born climber, it needs a stable cat tree with several platforms and a high lookout spot. A plush bed placed in a quiet corner lets it recover between two mad dashes.

  Its fluffy coat makes the Somali look bigger than it is: a well-ventilated medium carrier is usually enough. Watch out for heat in the car, as its semi-long coat handles it less well.
