🐈Norwegian Forest Cat: gear and buying guides
The Norwegian Forest Cat is a large, hardy breed, gentle with its family but built for climbing. Males can reach 6 to 8 kg, which calls for oversized, very stable equipment. Its waterproof double coat goes through a spectacular spring moult.
Profile : Large cat (4 to 8 kg) with a waterproof semi-long double coat and moderate to high energy.

🍖
Food
This large, slow-maturing cat (fully grown around 4 or 5 years old) needs a ration adjusted to its actual weight and activity to avoid excess weight in adulthood. Large-format kibble makes it chew rather than gulp.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its double coat needs brushing once or twice a week most of the year, but almost daily during the heavy spring moult. A wide-toothed comb and a slicker brush handle the woolly undercoat.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
A hunter at heart, the Norwegian loves floor chase games and feathered prey toys. Regular play sessions help maintain its musculature and keep weight gain at bay.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
Choose an XXL cat tree with thick trunks and wide platforms able to support 8 kg: standard models tip over under its weight. Barely bothered by cold thanks to its coat, it happily sleeps in cool spots.

🧳
Travel & safety
A size L carrier, or even XL for a large male, is necessary; check the maximum load stated by the manufacturer. Expect 40 to 80 euros for a rigid model suited to its size.
-
🧰
Accessories
Scratching posts and litter boxes must be chosen in large sizes: a box that is too small will quickly be abandoned by this imposing cat. A vacuum or lint brush quickly becomes essential during moulting season.
