🐈Munchkin: gear and buying guides
The Munchkin is a playful, affectionate cat instantly recognizable by its short legs, the result of a genetic mutation. Small to medium in size (2 to 4 kg), it stays lively but jumps lower than a standard cat. Its equipment should therefore favor closely spaced levels, ramps and easy access points.
Profile : Small to medium cat (2 to 4 kg), short or semi-long coat, moderate to high energy despite its short legs.

🍖
Food
With its small build and short legs, the Munchkin tolerates excess weight poorly as it strains the spine: a measured ration of roughly 40 to 60 g of quality kibble per day depending on activity. A slightly raised but low bowl remains easy to reach.

🧴
Care & grooming
The short coat needs brushing once a week, the semi-long variety two to three times to prevent mats. As its short legs limit some grooming postures, check the hindquarters and belly regularly.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
The Munchkin loves running and hunting at ground level: balls, toy mice and ball tracks are ideal. Avoid toys that push it to jump very high; play with wand toys at a reasonable height.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
Choose a cat tree with closely spaced levels (20 to 30 cm between platforms) or fitted with ramps, as it cannot clear large height gaps. A floor-level or low bed suits it better than a high perch.

🧳
Travel & safety
A standard S/M carrier (around 30 to 60 euros) is enough for its size. A top-loading opening makes it easier to place a cat that climbs less readily through a front door.

🧰
Accessories
Go for a litter box with a low rim or low entry, easier to step over with short legs. Pet steps or small stairs to reach the sofa or bed are a real plus.
