🐈Ocicat: gear and buying guides
Despite its spotted wild-cat look, the Ocicat is an entirely domestic breed, developed from Siamese, Abyssinian and American Shorthair lines. Athletic and muscular (2.5 to 6.5 kg), it has a temperament often described as dog-like: sociable, playful and able to learn tricks. It needs space, play and company.
Profile : Medium to large athletic cat (2.5 to 6.5 kg), short spotted coat, high energy and a sociable character.
Ocicat gear, family by family
-
🍖
Food
Muscular and energetic, the Ocicat does best on a diet rich in animal protein, split into two or three meals. Kibble-dispensing toys combine feeding and fun for this keen player.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its short satin coat only needs weekly brushing with a rubber glove to make the spots shine. Minimal shedding, minimal upkeep.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
The Ocicat learns fetch, leash walking and clicker tricks: an ideal candidate for positive training. Provide sturdy toys and progressive puzzles; it cracks simple ones quickly.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
A great jumper, it needs a tall, stable cat tree and several lookout points. It copes poorly with an empty house all day: a feline companion or a sociable dog keeps it good company.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Accustomed early, it travels well and many accept a harness to explore outdoors safely. A size M rigid carrier and a fitted harness (15 to 30 euros) cover the essentials.
-
🧰
Accessories
A harness, fetch toys (small light balls) and multiple scratchers spread around the home are its must-haves. A cat exercise wheel can appeal to the most energetic individuals.
