🐈Persian: gear and buying guides
The Persian is a calm, homebound cat of 3 to 6 kg with a long, dense coat and a flat (brachycephalic) face. It is the most demanding breed to maintain: daily brushing is mandatory, along with regular eye cleaning. Its equipment should prioritise grooming and floor-level comfort over height.
Profile : Medium cat (3 to 6 kg), very dense long coat, low energy.

🍖
Food
Its brachycephalic jaw makes picking up food difficult: choose kibble shaped for flat-faced cats and a wide, shallow bowl. Not very active, it gains weight easily, so measure its portions.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Brushing must be daily with a metal comb and a suitable brush, or painful mats will form; count 10 to 15 minutes a day. Its eyes tear and need regular cleaning with an eye lotion; occasional professional grooming, around 40 to 70 euros, may prove necessary.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Not athletic, the Persian prefers short, calm games: a floor-level feather wand, light balls, valerian or catnip toys. No need to invest in acrobatic courses; a few gentle sessions a day are enough.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
It rarely climbs: a low cat tree with plush beds or simple floor baskets suit it better than a tall tower. Sensitive to heat because of its flat face and thick coat, it needs its bed in a cool, airy spot.

🧳
Travel & safety
As a brachycephalic breed, it tolerates heat and travel stress poorly: a well-ventilated hard carrier is a must, and never travel in hot weather. Some airlines refuse flat-faced breeds in the hold, so check before flying.

🧰
Accessories
Grooming dominates the budget: a comb, brush, eye lotion and round-tipped scissors are essential. A litter box with fine, low-dust litter limits granules getting caught in its long fur.
