🐈Bengal: gear and buying guides
The Bengal is an athletic cat of 4 to 7 kg with a spotted coat, descended from crosses with the Asian leopard cat. Extremely active, intelligent and a keen climber, it demands intense daily stimulation or it will get into mischief and destroy things. It is the breed requiring the biggest investment in enrichment: wall courses, puzzle toys and water games.
Profile : Athletic cat (4 to 7 kg), short glittery coat, very high energy.
Bengal gear, family by family
-
🍖
Food
Very active and muscular, the Bengal has above-average energy needs: a diet very rich in animal protein is recommended. Puzzle feeders and kibble dispensers turn meals into an activity, which it badly needs.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its short, silky coat only needs a quick weekly brushing. A breed quirk: many Bengals love water, which makes baths and showers surprisingly easy.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
The number-one budget line: plan several intense play sessions a day, a cat exercise wheel (often 200 to 400 euros), puzzle toys and constant rotation. Many learn leash walking and water games; an under-stimulated Bengal becomes destructive.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
A tireless climber, it needs a very tall cat tree, ideally 1.80 m or more, complemented by wall shelves forming an elevated course. Secure windows and balconies: it is a powerful, curious jumper.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Choose a hard carrier with secure latches: agile and clever, it can open simple catches. A harness is near-essential for this breed, as many Bengals happily walk on a leash.
-
🧰
Accessories
The highest accessory budget of the breeds in this guide: exercise wheel, harness, water fountain (it loves playing with water) and multiple scratchers to replace often. Expect an easy 300 to 600 euros of enrichment equipment in the first year.
