• 🍖 Food

  Labradors are famously prone to weight gain (a POMC gene mutation affects part of the breed): plan on roughly 300-400 g of kibble per day for a 30 kg adult, adjusted for activity, and go for a slow-feeder bowl (10-25 €).

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Its short double coat sheds heavily, especially in spring and autumn: a curry brush or rubber grooming mitt used once or twice a week does the job. Dry the floppy ears thoroughly after every swim to help prevent ear infections.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  A born retriever, it loves balls and floating water toys; pick thick rubber in size L, as it quickly destroys budget toys. Food-dispensing toys are also a great outlet for its food obsession.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  Plan on a 100-120 cm bed, ideally with a removable washable cover given the heavy shedding. An orthopaedic model (60-120 €) is a smart investment, as the breed is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  In the car, choose an L/XL crate (around 90-100 cm) or a crash-tested car harness. Young Labradors often pull on the lead, so a no-pull harness makes training easier.

• 🧰 Accessories

  A sturdy Y-shaped harness (30-60 €), a 5-10 m long line for recall work and a microfibre towel for swim outings are near-essential. For athletic dogs like this, check stitching and clip strength carefully.
