  Giant-breed growth must be paced slowly: a giant-breed junior kibble until 18 to 24 months, weighed rations and no unprescribed calcium supplements. Split into two meals and enforce post-meal rest, given the gastric torsion risk.

  Its double coat needs brushing two to three times a week and careful drying after every swim to prevent skin issues under the undercoat. The plentiful drool is managed with dedicated towels and daily jowl wiping.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  Water is its playground: retrieving floating toys, supervised swimming and even an introduction to water rescue, a discipline where the breed excels. On land, quiet walks and chewing satisfy this placid dog.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  Plan on an XXL mattress of 120 to 140 cm, thick and with a washable cover, placed somewhere cool: its arctic coat makes overheated rooms uncomfortable. Put an absorbent mat under the water bowl, as it splashes generously when drinking.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  Only a large estate car or van will do, with a divider and loading ramp to spare this weight from jumping. After a swim, a drying coat protects the car from a dog that takes hours to dry.

• 🧰 Accessories

  A flotation vest with a handle for water outings (often 40 to 80 euros in XXL), a floating long line and a drying coat make up its kit. Add a sturdy undercoat rake for routine grooming.
