🐕Samoyed: gear and buying guides
The Samoyed is a medium-sized nordic dog (17 to 30 kg), cheerful, sociable and famous for its trademark smile. Its magnificent white coat demands sustained upkeep and a full grooming arsenal. Energetic and vocal, it needs daily activity and copes poorly with being left alone.

🍖
Food
Expect around 250 to 400 g of kibble per day depending on size and activity, favoring recipes rich in omega-3 to support coat quality. Like other nordic breeds it uses its food efficiently, so watch the weight when activity drops.

🧴
Care & grooming
Its very dense white coat requires brushing 2 to 3 times a week with a slicker and metal comb, daily during the massive sheds. Baths take ages to dry: a force dryer or groomer visits (often 60 to 100 euros for this much coat) make life easier.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
A former herding and sledding dog, it loves shared activities: light canicross, hiking, search games. Highly sociable, it would rather play with you than with a toy alone; occupation toys still help against boredom barking.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
It handles cold very well but seeks coolness indoors: provide a size L bed in a cool room and accept that it sometimes sleeps on the bare floor. A cooling mat is useful as soon as warm weather arrives.

🧳
Travel & safety
Use a size M/L crate or a certified car safety harness; the coat sheds everywhere, so a seat cover pays for itself quickly. Like most nordic breeds its recall is imperfect, so a long line is advised in open areas.

🧰
Accessories
A well-fitted Y-harness protects its thick ruff better than a collar, which breaks the coat. Add a complete grooming kit (slicker, rake, comb, around 40 to 60 euros): it is the single most important accessory for this breed.
