🐕Siberian Husky: gear and buying guides
The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized sled dog (20 to 27 kg), enduring, sociable and a notorious escape artist. Its intense exercise needs and pulling instinct point the equipment list toward draft sports like canicross. Without daily physical outlet it becomes destructive and vocal.
Profile : Medium dog, 50 to 60 cm and 16 to 27 kg, dense nordic double coat, very high energy.

🍖
Food
Bred to run long distances on little food, the Husky has a very efficient metabolism and often eats less than comparable dogs, around 250 to 350 g of protein- and fat-rich kibble. Adjust the ration to actual workload: a winter-sporting Husky can double its needs.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its nordic double coat blows out twice a year, with the undercoat coming off in handfuls: a slicker brush and undercoat rake become daily tools then. Never shave it, as the coat also insulates against heat; baths stay rare because the coat has little odor.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Toys do not replace running: it needs 1 to 2 hours of intense daily exercise, ideally in harness sports (canicross, bikejoring). Add snuffle mats, food-dispensing toys and sanctioned shredding games, because this dog gets bored fast.

🏠
Bedding & habitat
A legendary escape artist, it jumps, climbs and digs: a fence of at least 1.80 m with a buried base or slab is essential. Indoors it often prefers cool tile floors to a plush bed, especially in summer.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Never let it off leash in unfenced areas: its running and prey drive make recall very unreliable even in trained dogs. In the car, use a size M/L crate or a crash-tested safety harness; a GPS collar is almost standard among Husky owners.
-
🧰
Accessories
Invest in a real pulling harness, X-back or canicross style (35 to 70 euros), with a bungee towline: pulling is in its genes, so channel it. For regular walks, a separate no-pull harness keeps the dog from linking the leash to sport mode.
