🦜Senegal parrot: gear and buying guides

The Senegal parrot is a compact, playful and endearing African parrot, known for being far quieter than conures or large parrots. It tends to bond strongly with one person, so socialising it with the whole household from the start matters. Its modest size makes it one of the best-suited parrots for apartment life.

Senegal parrot gear, family by family

• 🍖 Food

  Pellets for medium parrots, fresh vegetables and fruit daily, seeds and nuts as a measured supplement. It is especially fond of sprouted seeds and fresh corn.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Misting or a bathing dish two or three times a week. Regular weight monitoring is usually enough, as the species is fairly hardy.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  Foot toys it happily juggles while lying on its back, small foraging puzzles and chew wood. Vary who plays with it to prevent one-person exclusivity.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  A cage at least 70 to 80 cm wide with sturdy bars, around 150 to 300 euros. Like most African parrots, it is covered by protection rules: choose a ringed, captive-bred youngster with paperwork.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  A medium rigid carrier with a low perch. Accustomed young, it travels fairly calmly, which makes vet visits easier.

• 🧰 Accessories

  A play stand, natural wood perches, stainless steel bowls and a monitoring scale. A gradually introduced harness allows safe trips outdoors.
