🐇Angora: gear and buying guides
The angora rabbit is bred for its spectacular woolly coat, which can grow several centimetres long. Weighing 2.5 to 4 kg depending on the line, it is fairly calm, but its grooming needs are the most demanding of any rabbit. Adopting an angora means committing to daily grooming and a full grooming kit.
Profile : Between 2.5 and 4 kg as an adult, very long woolly coat, calm and docile temperament.

Food
Unlimited hay is vital for the angora: fur swallowed during self-grooming can form hairballs and cause a potentially fatal digestive blockage. Plenty of fibre and good hydration help the ingested wool pass through.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Brushing must be daily, without exception, to prevent mats, felting and heavy fur ingestion. The coat also needs to be trimmed or plucked regularly, roughly every three months depending on regrowth, and the hindquarters checked daily to stay clean.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Choose smooth wooden or wicker toys: rope or fabric toys snag the wool and create mats. Short-pile snuffle mats are still usable if you inspect them regularly.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
Avoid wood shavings and fine straw, which embed themselves in the coat: prefer dust-extracted hemp or a washable mat. A dry living area is essential, as damp wool felts very quickly.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
Use a medium-sized, well-ventilated carrier: under all that wool, the angora copes very poorly with heat and thermal stress in the car. In summer, travel early in the morning and never without air conditioning.

🧰
Accessories
The grooming kit is the priority purchase: a slicker brush, a wide-toothed metal comb and round-tipped scissors, around 30 to 50 euros in total. A non-slip grooming table makes the daily sessions much easier.
