The Polish rabbit is one of the smallest recognised breeds, with an adult weight of around 1 to 1.5 kg, a compact body and short upright ears. Lively and alert, it can be reserved and needs gentle socialisation. Its tiny size calls for genuinely scaled-down accessories and a home secured against escapes.

Polish gear, family by family

• 🍖 Food

  With its very small build, the Polish is quickly overfed: weigh the pellets, as around twenty grams a day is often enough, and rely on unlimited hay. Introduce each new vegetable over several days, as its miniature digestive system copes poorly with sudden changes.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Its short, glossy coat needs little care; weekly brushing is enough. As with other very small breeds, keep an eye on the teeth: malocclusion is more common in compact skulls.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  Choose mini-format toys: light wicker balls, small tunnels and thin chew toys its small jaw can tackle. Treat-searching games also help build confidence in this sometimes shy rabbit.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  Despite its size, it still needs a pen of at least 2 square metres, but above all a perfectly secure one: its small body slips through bar spacing that would contain an average rabbit. Low, narrow hideouts help it feel safe.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  A small rigid carrier, possibly an XL rodent format, is enough. Add a non-slip mat and a handful of hay: such a light rabbit gets thrown around at the slightest turn.

• 🧰 Accessories

  Everything must match its size: a litter tray with a low rim so it can get in easily, shallow bowls and a hay rack mounted low. Accessories made for medium rabbits are often unusable for it.
