🐇Mini Lop: gear and buying guides

The mini lop, easily recognised by its floppy ears, is known for its calm and affectionate character, making it a great family companion rabbit. It usually weighs between 1.5 and 2 kg. Its drooping ears call for specific hygiene care and equipment that will not snag them.

• 🍖 Food

  The mini lop tends to put on weight because of its calm temperament: unlimited hay, pellets rationed to about 2 to 3 percent of its body weight and limited treats. Weigh it once a month to adjust the ration.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  Its lop ears restrict airflow in the ear canal and make ear infections more likely: inspect them every week and see a vet at the first sign of discharge or bad smell. Weekly brushing is enough for its short coat.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  Favour toys without hooks or wide mesh where its long ears could get caught. Wide tunnels, snuffle mats and untreated wood chew toys suit it perfectly.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  Plan for a pen of at least 2 square metres with bedding kept dry at all times: ears dragging in damp litter increase the risk of infection. Hideouts with a wide entrance prevent repeated rubbing.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  A cat carrier with a top opening makes handling this docile rabbit easier. Check that the side grilles have no gaps where its ears could slip through.

• 🧰 Accessories

  Choose wide, shallow bowls: its floppy ears easily dip into deep dishes. A water bottle can complement the bowl to help keep the ears dry.
