Description
Most cages come with smooth plastic perches, all the same diameter. As our guide explains, identical constant pressure always loads the same points of the foot and over time encourages bumblefoot, an inflammation of the sole. Varying materials and shapes is the simplest defence.
This perch is braided cotton rope on a steel-wire core: bend it by hand into an arch, S or spiral and fix it to the bars with the two screw ends. Cotton gives a soft, warm grip unlike wood, and the curved shape creates varied diameters to stand on. It can also link two areas of the cage like a bridge.
35 cm unbent, 200 g. The colours are a pastel gradient and vary from piece to piece. For budgies, lovebirds, cockatiels and conures. Cotton gets dirty: wash it in hot water and let it dry completely; remove it as soon as threads come loose, as a bird can catch a claw. Keep natural wood perches too: rope complements, it doesn’t replace.
