Description
A bored parrot screams, sways on the spot or ends up damaging its feathers. The van Hoek and ten Cate study (1998) cited in our ring-necked parakeet guide found these behaviours more common in birds kept in a poor environment. Two needs keep coming up: moving on supports that aren’t fixed, and picking things apart, which fills much of a wild bird’s day.
This swing covers both. The arch threads corn cobs, shells, rattan balls and a few wooden pieces; the perch is a raw wood branch with pine cones at each end. Your bird swings on it, chews the arch and pulls the scales off the pine cones. It is all made to be destroyed bit by bit.
15 cm perch (small, about 22 × 16 cm, 123 g) or 20 cm (large), for budgies, lovebirds, Senegal parrots, ring-necked parakeets or conures. Hang it in a high corner of the cage without blocking flight. Remove it when only the string or wire holding the arch is left, and keep an eye on a bird that chews the ties.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it last?
It depends on the bird: a few weeks for a shredding ring-neck, several months for a budgie. It is a toy that wears out, by design.
Is it suitable for an African grey?
The large size can suit a medium bird; for an African grey or macaw it will be destroyed quickly and is a bit small.
