🐕Vizsla: gear and buying guides
The Vizsla is a sensitive athlete deeply attached to its humans, often nicknamed a velcro dog. At 20 to 30 kg, with a short golden coat and boundless energy, it needs canine sports gear and protection from the cold. It is a demanding companion in terms of activity and poorly suited to whole days alone.
Profile : Medium-to-large dog of 54 to 64 cm and 20 to 30 kg, short golden coat with little undercoat, very high energy.

🍖
Food
An athlete with a fast metabolism, an active Vizsla needs energy- and protein-dense food, with portions recalculated according to its sporting season. Two meals a day and a rest before and after exercise limit the bloat risk found in deep-chested breeds.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
The short coat only needs a weekly rubber grooming mitt and rare baths, but the thin skin scrapes easily in brush: check pads and flanks after every outing. The drop ears need a weekly check.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
The Vizsla excels at canicross, bikejoring and retrieving games: floating dummies, long-throw balls and scent games are the best investments. A dog of this intensity left unoccupied quickly develops anxiety and barking.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
Short coat and low body fat: give it a thick, warm bed indoors, never outside. Many Vizslas seek contact and appreciate a bed near the living areas, or even a blanket to burrow into.

🧳
Travel & safety
For sports and travel, an L-size crate or a crash-tested car harness is a must. For canicross, use a dedicated pulling harness (40 to 80 €) with a bungee line: never let a dog pull on a plain collar.
-
🧰
Accessories
Chilly because of its short coat with little undercoat, the Vizsla appreciates a lined waterproof coat (30 to 60 €) as soon as the weather turns cold and wet. A sports water bottle and a microfibre drying mat round out an active team's kit.
