Description
One winter morning the hamster doesn’t move, its body is cold, its breathing barely visible. Many owners think it has died. As our guide explains, below 15 °C a Syrian hamster can slip into torpor, a dangerous pseudo-hibernation. The first protection is a temperate room away from windows; the second, a nest where it can curl up and hold on to its own warmth.
This nest is a small fleece-lined plush tent, open on one side. Two hooks let you hang it from the bars like a covered hammock, or simply set it in the bedding. Your rodent hides in it to sleep, which also meets its need to feel out of sight during the day.
Two sizes: 11 × 9 × 15 cm for a dwarf hamster, mouse or gerbil; 16 × 13 × 16 cm for a Syrian hamster or young rat. Three patterns to choose from. Fabric gets chewed: remove the nest if threads hang loose so no foot gets caught, and hand-wash it in lukewarm water. It complements, but doesn’t replace, deep bedding and unscented paper for nest building.

Frequently asked questions
Which size for a Syrian hamster?
The 16 × 13 × 16 cm. The small size is for dwarf hamsters, mice and gerbils.
Will my hamster chew it?
It may nibble it. Check it at each clean-out and remove it if threads hang loose.
Is it enough to protect it from the cold?
No: the room should stay above about 18 °C. The nest helps the animal keep its warmth; it doesn’t heat.
