What bar spacing should you choose?
An adult Roborovski can slip through a gap that would easily hold a Syrian hamster: aim for a maximum spacing of 0.8 cm, the same as for a mouse, rather than the roughly 1 cm usually tolerated for other hamsters. What wheel should you choose despite its small size?
Counterintuitively, a wheel that's too small remains the most common trap: aim for a minimum diameter of 20 cm, since the Roborovski's running speed demands a wide curve so its spine is never forced to bend, even though its body looks tiny next to the wheel.
What other accessories deserve special attention?
- A heavy, low bowl rather than a raised feeder, hard to reach for this small but very fast-moving body.
- A ball-valve water bottle checked regularly, since the flow needs to suit its tiny mouth without risking a leak that would soak the bedding.
