A large parrot such as an African grey or an amazon is a highly intelligent animal that quickly grows bored in a bare cage. The right accessories are not gadgets: they keep the bird busy and prevent behavioural problems. A study by Meehan, Garner, and Mench, published in 2004 on the development of cage stereotypy in orange-winged amazon parrots, showed that an enriched environment reduces the onset of abnormal behaviours (see the study). Varied perches
Several perches of different diameters and textures (natural wood, rope) keep the feet healthy and avoid single pressure points. Single-diameter plastic perches should be limited, as they always tire the same areas.

Rotating toys regularly rekindles curiosity and prevents habituation. It is better to cycle a varied stock than to cram the cage with fixed objects that end up ignored.
