Boxer gear, family by family

• 🍖 Food

  With its deep chest, the Boxer is among the breeds at risk of gastric torsion: split food into two meals, use a slow-feeder bowl and avoid hard exercise right after eating. Some individuals have sensitive stomachs that do better on a digestive formula.

• 🧴 Care & grooming

  The short coat needs only a weekly once-over with a mitt, but the muzzle folds and jowls need regular wiping, since this dog drools after exercise or drinking. Clean the eyes too, which are exposed on that short face.

• 🎾 Toys & enrichment

  A dedicated player well into adulthood, it wears toys out fast: favour tough rubber and sturdy tug toys. Break up sessions in hot weather, as its brachycephalic breathing limits heat dissipation.

• 🏠 Bedding & habitat

  An L to XL bed of about 100 cm suits it, ideally with a washable cover since it likes to fling itself onto it in play. In summer a cooling mat helps regulate its temperature, a weak point of the breed.

• 🧳 Travel & safety

  In the car, favour air conditioning and never leave it in a parked vehicle: the breed is very sensitive to heatstroke. A well-ventilated crate of around 90 cm or a certified harness, depending on the boot.

• 🧰 Accessories

  Pick a Y-harness that compresses neither neck nor chest, essential for its breathing, typically 30 to 60 euros. A portable water bottle is a must on summer walks.
