In short: Fine to medium cat (2.5 to 5 kg) with a silky semi-long coat, no undercoat, and high energy. An elegant, lively, playful cat that keeps a mischievous streak all its life. In blue-eyed white cats, congenital deafness can occur: favour visual and vibration-based toys over sound-based ones.
Coat care
The Turkish Angora needs two or three sessions a week with a metal comb then a slicker, focusing on the britches and armpits. Its light shedding makes it an easy housemate, but brushing remains bonding time not to skip.
Litter: the most sensitive product in the house
Three non-negotiables on litter: size (50 cm minimum for its build), a fine unscented substrate, a calm spot well away from the food. Golden rule: one tray per cat plus one, scooped daily — most toileting accidents start there.
Health watch-points for the Turkish Angora
The breed is monitored for: congenital deafness in white cats and hereditary kitten ataxia. Check claws every three to four weeks, inspect teeth and ears while grooming, and keep parasite treatment year-round even indoors. Life expectancy: 13 to 18 years — and for anything unusual, the vet comes before the forums.
