In short: Medium cat (2.5 to 5.5 kg), silky short coat, high energy and a strong need for company. A blend of Siamese and Burmese, sociable, playful and chatty, with a softer voice than the former. Highly company-dependent, it does better with a second cat or frequently rotated boredom-busting toys.

Rotation is part of feline sleep: the Tonkinese wants a sunny spot, a calm hideout and a cosy perch to alternate between by the hour — three simple beds beat one designer basket. Washable at 60°C, ideally, for parasite control.

Allow 60 cm of height for the main vertical scratcher, set by the nap spot (cats scratch on waking, fully stretched), and pair it with an inclined or flat model: your sofa will thank you. Add one quiet hideaway per cat — everyone needs somewhere to vanish unfollowed.
