Description
During the spring or autumn moult, dead undercoat piles up behind the ears, under the legs and on the trousers. Left alone, it felts into tight mats that pull on the skin with every movement, trap moisture and often end up cut out, or clipped off at the groomer’s. With a double-coated dog, regular brushing is the only way to avoid getting there.
This comb combines the two tools you need during a moult. The wide-spaced side works into a mat and splits it into thinner strands you can then tease apart; the close-set side runs through the detangled coat and brings out the dead undercoat, the hair that would otherwise end up on your sofa. The blades are stainless steel with a rounded edge on the skin side, and the PP and TPR handle doesn’t slip in a damp hand.
9.5 × 17.5 cm. Work strand by strand, holding the hair at the base so you don’t pull on the skin, and never on a wet dog. For a short, flat coat (Boxer, Beagle), a glove or soft brush works better: this comb is for medium to long coats and double coats. A mat stuck to the skin or an irritated patch is a job for a groomer or vet.

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt the dog?
Used on strands held at the base, without forcing, it cuts through the mat instead of ripping it out. On irritated skin or a mat stuck to the skin, see a groomer.
Is it suitable for a short coat?
No, it is for medium to long coats and dense undercoats. For a flat short coat, a grooming glove is better.
Which side first?
The wide-spaced side on mats, then the close-set side to remove dead undercoat once the coat is detangled.
