Description
A gutted cushion when you get home, a gnawed skirting board, barking reported by the neighbours: a bored dog left alone always finds something to do, rarely what you would have chosen. Making it use its nose and patience to get its food is one of the most effective occupations: in the Schipper and colleagues study covered in our guide, a food-filled toy stimulated food-seeking behaviour and activity in the dogs observed.
This bear-shaped wobbler holds kibble. Your dog pushes it with its nose or paw, it tips, rights itself and drops a few pieces through an opening you adjust with a slider: wide to start, narrower once the dog has worked it out. You can serve part of the day’s ration in it rather than extra treats.
About 12 × 10 × 10 cm, 165 g. It suits small and medium dogs; a strong large dog that chews everything must be supervised, since no toy is indestructible. Rinse it regularly to prevent greasy build-up. Remove it if a piece comes off.

Frequently asked questions
Will my dog understand it?
Start with the opening at its widest and a few kibbles: the first pieces that drop do the teaching. Then narrow the opening to make the game last.
Can I leave my dog alone with it?
Once you have seen how it plays, yes for a dog that doesn’t chew its toys; a destructive dog should stay supervised.
Should I add kibble to its ration?
No, take it from the day’s ration so your dog doesn’t put on weight.
