Description
A freshly moulted shrimp has a soft shell for a few hours: that’s when the tank’s fish, and sometimes other shrimp, go after it. Without refuges, red cherry or Amano colonies thin out with no obvious reason. A simple, dark, stable shelter on the bottom often makes the difference.
This pebble is fired ceramic, a heavy material that stays put, doesn’t break down and releases nothing into the water. Its grey and white granite finish looks like natural stone. Size S (9.5 × 7.5 × 5 cm) has a single 2.6 to 3 cm opening, ideal for shrimp and gobies; size M (12 × 8 × 6 cm) has three 3 to 3.5 cm openings, for small cichlids, dwarf plecos or a group of shrimp.
120 to 170 g. The porous surface soon gets a biofilm that shrimp graze on. Rinse it in clean water before placing it directly on the substrate so it doesn’t move. If a fish larger than the opening circles it, that’s normal: it’s exactly what protects those inside.
