Taming a Blue Tongue Skink: Gentle Handling

Start by habituating it to your presence
Before any handling, let the skink settle into its terrarium for a week or two, undisturbed. Then get it used to human presence simply by approaching at feeding time, so it associates the hand with something positive rather than a threat. Short, regular sessions
Lift the animal by supporting its whole body, never by the tail, and keep the first sessions to a few minutes. Frequent and brief beats rare and long: regularity builds trust, while excessive duration creates stress. Increase the time gradually as the animal stays calm.

Hissing, body puffing, the blue tongue displayed, escape attempts, or biting all signal discomfort: put the animal back down without insisting.
