This response is useful short-term to mobilise energy, but becomes harmful if it persists for hours — exactly what happens on a long transport.

Why confinement makes it worse

Inside a transport bag, a fish stacks up several stressors at once: restricted space, changing light or darkness, ammonia building up in unfiltered water.
