🐕Beagle: gear and buying guides
The Beagle is a compact scent hound of roughly 10 to 15 kg, sociable, cheerful and gifted with an exceptional nose. Bred to follow a trail for hours, it forgets everything once its nose locks onto a scent, which makes a long line, serious fencing and daily scent games essential. Its legendary greed also demands constant vigilance over the ration.
Profile : A compact scent hound of 10 to 15 kg with a dense short coat, energetic, food-driven and ruled by its nose.

🍖
Food
An adult of 10 to 15 kg gets around 160 to 240 g of kibble per day, weighed strictly: the Beagle is one of the breeds most prone to obesity and never seems full. A slow-feeder bowl paces its meals, and secure your bins and cupboards, as this born scavenger helps itself.
-
🧴
Care & grooming
Its short, dense coat needs only weekly brushing, a little more during shedding periods. Its long drop ears must be checked and cleaned regularly, as moisture and poor airflow encourage ear infections.
-
🎾
Toys & enrichment
Scent is its engine: snuffle mats, treat trails in the garden and search games occupy it better than any ball. Treat-dispensing toys filled with part of its ration kill two birds with one stone, enrichment and weight control.
-
🏠
Bedding & habitat
A size-M bed is enough, but the real issue lies elsewhere: the garden must be enclosed by solid, well-checked fencing, as a Beagle follows a trail without looking back and some dig under wire fences. Originally a pack hound, it copes poorly with long periods alone and can then howl very loudly.
-
🧳
Travel & safety
In the car, a rigid size-M crate or a crash-tested safety harness suits its build. Outdoors, full off-lead freedom is risky outside secure areas: a 10 m long line is the norm for many Beagle owners, sometimes backed up by a GPS collar.
-
🧰
Accessories
Its basic kit: a size-M harness, a 10 m long line, a slow-feeder bowl, a snuffle mat and a collar with an ID tag, possibly backed up by a GPS tracker. A rubber brush is all its short coat needs for routine care.
